Late Night Stolen Moments to Paint

I am aware that it has been quite some time since I have posted to the blog, but daily school requirements have been staggering, and my head is barely above the water, it seems. However, I did want to take a moment and post this in-progress watercolor that I started over a week ago. Tonight I spent more time working on the figure, which is another selfie, and quite frankly, I am very much out of my element when I try to paint people in watercolor. So, I proceed very slowly.

I am feeling pretty good about the way this painting is progressing, and hope that I can continue to chip away at it even if for less than 30 minutes per day.

Thank you for reading.

Those strong horizontals with the connecting Z lines make for a fascinating composition. You could almost leave the lower part of the picture unfinished, just sketched in as it is, and the picture would retain its appeal. I sat looking at it for quite a while just enjoying the rhythm. Thankyou.

Why, thank you! I’ve really tried to study this, compositionally. It always leaves me with more questions than answers, but hey, I’m having an enjoyable time with the process!

This is a wonderful composition. Your progress on the figure is also impressive. We learn from situations like this. I am confident your end result will be successful.

Progress is excellent as far as I can see – I thought it was a finished painting until I read your article.
